"Donna is an absolute pleasure to work with. She's a dream designer both from a visual and practical perspective. Her costumes are not only beautiful and historically compelling but she goes out of her way to see to it that you're comfortable wearing them and they serve your needs and challenges in performance. I can't wait to wear her clothes again on another project. She's a real artist."

Costuming the Play, Butler

Donna was asked to costume the Regional Premiere of Richard Strand’s popular play, Butler, set in the 1861 Civil War.

An escaped slave seeks sanctuary, but the laws of the land are unrelenting. With sharp wit and tongue-in- cheek humor, Butler takes us on a journey through legal loopholes to find the true meaning of freedom.

The challenge of costuming was to accurately depict the uniforms of Confederate and Union officers, (Joe Ditmyer, Eric Hoffman, and Jim Sorensen), as well as clothing worn by the escaped slave (Shane Taylor), having traveled for miles on foot to reach the fort to see General Butler. (Eric Hoffman)
