By Aaron Posner, I am Asher Lev is adapted from the best-selling novel by Chaim Potok.
This new American play tells the powerful story of a boy prodigy. Set in post-war Brooklyn, Asher Lev must be a painter at all costs even though against the will of his family, community, and tradition.
Donna’s challenge was to costume two of three, very talented actors for multiple character roles, one of which was Chaim Potok’s daughter, Naama.
Two of the actors would be required to make costume changes quickly, on stage, while transforming back and forth into the different characters they were portraying.
While the actors made this transformation amazingly believable, their costuming had to support those transformations.
