Donna was asked to costume the Regional Premiere of Richard Strand’s popular play, Butler, set in the 1861 Civil War.
An escaped slave seeks sanctuary, but the laws of the land are unrelenting. With sharp wit and tongue-in- cheek humor, Butler takes us on a journey through legal loopholes to find the true meaning of freedom.
The challenge of costuming was to accurately depict the uniforms of Confederate and Union officers, (Joe Ditmyer, Eric Hoffman, and Jim Sorensen), as well as clothing worn by the escaped slave (Shane Taylor), having traveled for miles on foot to reach the fort to see General Butler. (Eric Hoffman)
